Hirsh Precision has fostered a strong partnership with the Career Elevation Technology Center (CETC), an integral program within the St. Vrain Valley School District committed to equipping students with practical, hands-on training for dynamic careers in advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, welding, and fabrication technology.

In September of last year, Bella Waldroup joined our team as a promising advanced manufacturing student with an interest in building expertise around the complex, precision components produced at Hirsh Precision. Since the start of this year, Bella has contributed significantly to our operations, consistently demonstrating curiosity, diligence, and a genuine passion for the industry.

As she continues on her educational journey toward a career as a biomedical engineer, Bella remains a dedicated learner and valued member of our team. The following are Bella's reflections on her internship experience at Hirsh Precision.

Beginning in January 2025, I had the wonderful opportunity to work for Hirsh Precision Products Inc. When I first started, I didn’t know much about manufacturing. At the time, I was in a first-year manufacturing/machining class at CETC when the topic of internships came up. The Director of Manufacturing at Hirsh visited our class to speak about part-time internship opportunities. After class, I spoke with him directly, and he told me all about the company and how much he values being part of the team.

Bella Waldroup, Milling Intern

Why manufacturing?

I wanted to work in the industry of manufacturing to learn as much as possible before heading off to college for Biomedical Engineering. I believe working at Hirsh has helped me to achieve that goal. Medical manufacturing is such a hands-on industry-especially at companies like Hirsh, where every employee is involved in the process of creating life-saving medical equipment and aerospace instruments. From programming to machining, all the way to assembly and packaging, manufacturing is an engaging and immersive process!

Why Hirsh?

One of the things that sets Hirsh Precision apart from other companies in the industry is the team culture. It truly feels like one big family working together toward a common goal. Even during my initial interview, I felt welcomed-an experience that motivated me to join the team. When I started working, my schedule was hectic, but the team was flexible and supportive, working around my availability to make things work! Everyone at Hirsh-from the CEO to senior machinists to brand-new interns-is kind, welcoming, and always willing to help! It’s not uncommon to see someone pause their own tasks to assist a coworker in need.

What type of manufacturing work have you done during your internship?

I work primarily in the CNC machining cells, specifically in the CNC mills. Working in this area has helped me to understand the processes involved in producing precision parts. I run production for jobs, complete customer-specific inspections, assist with setups, and troubleshoot issues when they arise. While I mainly focus on the mills, I’ve also had the opportunity to work in other cells to broaden my experience. So far, this has included CNC lathes, pre-assembly, and assembly/packaging! Having the chance to rotate into different areas of the shop has been incredibly valuable-it allows me to learn how each part of the process works while also supporting other teams.

What's been your favorite part of the machining internship experience?

Working at Hirsh has been a fantastic experience. I’ve gained valuable knowledge, hands-on skills, and confidence in my abilities. Hirsh is an outstanding company filled with amazing people who are welcoming and supportive in every aspect of their work. I’m constantly inspired by the incredible work happening every day in the shop.

Any advice?

A few important things I’ve learned while working here: ask questions, treat everyone with kindness, and always show up ready to do good work! I truly hope that Hirsh continues to offer internship opportunities for students in the future-as it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had!
