That's a Wrap for 2022!

Written by Amanda White | Dec 30, 2022 10:19:52 PM

Exactly one year ago, we reflected on what a tumultuous year 2021 had been not just for our team, but for the entire country as we all recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic. We can safely say that 2022 was just as challenging of a year, but for completely different reasons.

Looking back, this was one of our most aggressive years for growth. From machines to facility space, and technology breakthroughs to team members, 2022 was one for the record books.

New Team Members

This year, our customers’ production needs grew, and we increased our capacity in response to those needs. To support this increased production and machining capacity, we invested significantly in our staff.

Over the course of 2022, we added 43 people to the Hirsh Precision team!

In addition to increasing our full-time staff, we also had the chance to partner with local universities and community colleges to revamp our summer internship program and ultimately hosted 9 interns across our production and robotics teams!

New Leadership

Not only did our staff grow this year, but so did our leadership team. Earlier this year we welcomed Patrick Tarvin as our new Chief Operations Officer.

With over 35 years of manufacturing experience, as well as a strong background in lean operations and continuous improvement, Patrick’s leadership will be essential in improving our on-time delivery rate and production capacity in the new year.

“With Patrick’s leadership, we continue to build a growing set of advanced capabilities for engineers with an emphasis on providing high quality, agile and reliable solutions to improve healthcare, explore space, advance science, and enable engineering innovation.  Patrick is a wonderful addition to our executive team, and we’re excited by what this means for our team and our customers,” said President and CEO Peter Doyle.

We also named Annette Siverling as our new Director of Quality. Annette brings over 20 years of manufacturing experience to the table. Her expertise will not only strengthen the stringent quality standards that our customers rely on, but it will also accelerate our growth goals.

“Annette’s expertise comes at a critical time in this season of growth for our team. Her support will allow me and other members of our leadership team to turn our focus on leading and overseeing strategic new product introduction activities with our customers,” said Wayne Fraley, Director of Special Projects.

New Technology

This was a big one – new technology. We invested in some incredible technology this year, with the heavy hitters being:

  • Fastems Flexible Pallet Container (FPC)
  • 4 Okuma MB4000 machining centers
  • Empire Rotary Grit Blast
  • Universal robots cobot

Hirsh has a long history of investing in technology, and those investments will only increase in 2023 and the years.

Access to cutting-edge technology not only enables our team members to upskill, but also allows them to step away from manual, redundant tasks so they can focus on more complex challenges for our customers.

Additionally, more automation, AI, and robotics technology mean increased levels of quality, higher throughput, a lower risk for human error, faster lead times, and lower costs.

We can’t wait to see more of this in the new year and beyond!

New Facility

The biggest – no pun intended – change we saw this year was acquiring our new facility: a whopping 65,000 square feet of manufacturing space to work with!

This new space will be home to all of our manufacturing operations:

  • Precision machining
  • Part finishing and cleaning
  • Complex assembly
  • Inventory management

This facility in Frederick, Colorado will serve as our new headquarters, allowing us to consolidate our team from being spread across 3 different cities (Boulder, Louisville, and Frederick) to sharing one roof.

We are projected to be completely moved in by the Spring of next year, so 2023 is already shaping up to be an exciting year.
